It’s been quite a week for Chivas Regal who this week (or so some claim) became the preferred whisky of the ANC and its Youth League. The opportunity arose when a Sandton night called Chivas management claiming it had double booked the "living with chivalry" brand awareness party with presidential spokesman Zizi Kodwa's 40th birthday bash.
Writes Kashiefa Ajam of IOL: “Eyeing a unique marketing opportunity to break into South Africa's black elite, the premium whisky distiller suggested the club combine the two parties. The bash was punted as the social event of the year and was attended by the who's who of the ANC and the entertainment industry”
If reports of an alliance are true, Chivas could not hope for a better way of getting one over rival Johnny Walker. But an ANC spokesman insists they are not. They are “misleading, untrue and undermining of the ANC integrity and image”, he said.
True or otherwise, the high life doesn’t end there for the party who this week launched an exclusive range of leather jackets which have to be seen to be believed.
